Getting Heart Healthy

Yesterday, I attended a brunch and the room with women dressed in red.  The information shared was to bring awareness.  2013 is the 10th year of the Go Red for Women Movement.  The Go Red for Women movement raises women's awareness of heart disease. The information shared was very enlightening so I want to share some of the pearls of wisdom that I learned with you so that I can raise your awareness.

Did you know heart disease strikes more women than men and that the symptoms are different.  They showed a video of a lady that thought she was having a hot flash and later thought she had food poisoning but it turned out she was having a heart attack.  Heart disease claims the lives of one in three women.  It is so important that we know our risk and our numbers.

The speaker shared a way to minimize our risk:

Healthy Diet - eat fruits, vegetables, lean meats and whole grains.  We should also remove the salt shaker from the table.

Exercise - Do brisk exercise 30 minutes most days.

Avoid tobacco- stopping smoking will give you back life.

Rest and relaxation - as women we take care of others but we must make sure that we take care of self by taking time to quiet our mind and relax.

Teamwork - we have to work with each others and make others aware.

Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life. - Proverbs 4:23
